Music in Delftwood

We at Manor de Blair do so enjoy music! It gives us great pleasure to play upon the pipes and strings with our good friends in Delftwood. Should any gentle wish to join our merrie band, know that you are most heartily welcome! Some of us sight read well, others of us play almost enirely by ear. All levels of experience are welcome!!.

Here you will find the music that we usually use for dancing in Delftwood. Most of the Delftwood versions are adapted from other arrangements, most of which are of Scadian origin. The PDF links will take you to the sheet music that we keep in our Delftwood music binders. The (PDF) links will take you to the original arrangements without our modifications.

For the Delftwood versions, we have added guitar chording and on a few tunes, we have made small adjustments to the setting. For most tunes, we have selected a few measures as an introduction. Immediately after the introduction, you will find a large arrow to help guide the eye back to the main section when repeating the tune. We have reformatted the pages to keep the staff sizes and page margins more consistant, and we have tried to place line breaks between music phrases when possible.

Most of the arrangements that we either adopted or adapted were found on the SCA Dance Music Database. An asterix* marks those that are currently most popular within the barony.

Schiarazula Marazula
PDF * Mainerio Arr. by Arianna of Wynthorpe (PDF)
Note: this dance is an SCA invention to the tune "Schiarazula Marzula" that appears in Giorgio Mainerio's Il Primo Libro di Balli, 1578. Often called the Maltese Bransle in the SCA, it should not be confused with a different Maltese Bransle dance and tune from Arbeau's Orchesographie.

We are working on finding a multi-part setting we don't hate to play. In the meantime, Alheydis usually plays the melody in G On the hammered dulcimer and everyone else accompanies by ear.

Strip the Willow
PDF ---
Arr.by Phaedria d'Aurillac (PDF). The dance called "strip the Willow" is a traditional Scottish dance. I don't know the origin of the music presented here. The sheet music suggests using this tune to accompany the "Trenchmore" dance that appears, with different music, in Playford.
