This 19th-century Russian folk tune was brought to the US by Ukrainian
immigrants and an accompanying dance became popular in the US in the
1940's. |

Arr. by Arianna of

Note: this dance is an SCA invention to the tune "Schiarazula Marzula"
that appears in Giorgio Mainerio's Il
Primo Libro di Balli, 1578. Often called the Maltese Bransle in
the SCA, it should not be confused with a different Maltese Bransle
dance and tune from Arbeau's Orchesographie.

We are working on finding
a multi-part setting we don't hate to play. In the meantime, Alheydis
usually plays the melody in G On the hammered dulcimer and everyone
else accompanies by ear.

This tune appears in the movie Hevry VIII (1972), and is based in part
upon a tune called "Turkelone," which is documented in late
16th-century lute books. |

Strip

|
---
|
Arr.by Phaedria d'Aurillac
(PDF).
The dance called "strip the Willow" is a traditional Scottish dance. I
don't know the origin of the music presented here. The sheet music
suggests using this tune to accompany the "Trenchmore" dance that
appears, with different music, in Playford.
